The headland of Léomont was an important observation post. Battles were hard between German and French to have it. The village of Vitrimont was destroyed. This monument to the glory of the soldiers of the iron division was dynamited by the German in 1940 as Luneville was occupied. The monument was rebuilt in 1950.
The Lorraine is full of monuments and cemeteries in memory of the World War I and World War II. It's a land of memory.

War is really amazing and fought over things that often do not make any sense at all. I just read that the next few wars will be over water and rights to water. Hard to imagine that we still flush toilets with good drinking water and wash cars with good drinking water. There must not be a shortage yet so those new wars must be off in the future. This is a nice photograph and the narrative is interesting too. I guess it set me off. LOL

Your blog has been included in our guide.

Around The World with Daily Photoblogs Old and New is a brief history of the City Daily Photoblog movement and a guide to sites around the world.

Although originally arising from the CDPB lists this is an independent publication. The criterion for inclusion here is that photographs mainly from a specific geographical location have been posted at dated intervals, and have archives searchable by date. This does not imply that the blog meets CDPB criteria.

Please keep us informed of any changes to your details.
